IRINOX AND RESPECTING THE PLANET: A ROADMAP TO BECOMING CLIMATE POSITIVE BY 2040

Irinox understands that the Planet is an asset to protect and preserve. It is one of the pillars of the company's sustainability roadmap. For this reason, it has decided to start a path to reduce CO2 emissions and decrease its environmental impact with the goal of being Climate Positive in 2040, and this means well before 2050 which is the target set by the European Union.

Irinox is working on this path of environmental responsibility together with Etifor. The consulting firm supports our company in planning, managing and implementing this pathway, following the MARC approach. The acronym stands for Measure (calculate and certify your impacts), Avoid (avoid and reduce your impacts), Risks (learn how to manage new climate risks) and Capture & Communicate (capture and conserve CO2, communicate through trees).

For Irinox, this has meant calculating its CO2 emissions following the ISO 14064 certification standard and subsequently identifying a reduction plan that has already gone into effect. In parallel, a portion of the remaining emissions are to be offset each year through Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)-certified forest protection projects.

To offset part of its 2021 emissions, it supported projects in the South Oglio Woods and Huong Son Nature area in Vietnam. To offset part of the 2022 emissions, it chose the Magnificent Community of Fiemme and confirmed support for projects for Huong Son Nature. Specifically, the projects in Vietnam focus on forest planning and monitoring as well as vigilance against illegal logging and exploitation, while, in the South Oglio Woods area, the activities concern the improvement and rehabilitation of existing forests. Finally, the one in Val di Fiemme concerns the clearing of areas damaged by storm Vaia. Removing crashed trees serves to accelerate natural regeneration and prevents the spread of a pest that threatens the survival of trees.
